They went the extra mile to satisfy me. I’m back to buy another one so I can have brine shrimp everyday easily. The product works as shown. Extremely easy to setup, use and clean. It is not thin cheap plastic. It is thick and sturdy. It can actually take some real world use and abuse. Harvesting is a little different than the standard drain and strain, so there is not as many shrimp available at once. I now feed smaller amounts constant throughout the day. This is a much better way to feed, especially fry. The recommended amount of eggs to start with is one. I am now up to 4 scoops at once successfully hatching (@ 90% hatch rate) without any crash. Granted, this is my 4th hatching. It is enough to feed many tanks, over 8 at from this dish. BBS is no more than 50% of their diet. I've been a tropical fish hobbyist since grade school. I'm now in my 40's. I always used freeze-dried brine shrimp in the past for feedings and never bothered learning how to hatch my own because I didn't have a good reason to bother with it. I recently acquired some white cloud mountain minnows by accident and they spawned in my pond. I decided to bring them in for the winter and wanted to try to entice them to spawn again indoors. I found through online research that live brine shrimp is supposed to help with that. I decided to give this hatchery a try based on other reviews I read. It's super easy to set up. You'll need some non-iodized salt - about 1 tablespoon to 3 cups of water. I had some in my kitchen for cooking already. I set up the hatchery and decided to only do 1 scoop of eggs for the first try. I set it up Thursday night and it didn't even take 24 hours. I had live babies swimming in the center the next afternoon. In 3 days, I've already pulled the sieve for feedings five times in just three days. I have two ten gallon tanks, each with about fifteen minnows and three cory cats. At first I gave each tank one full sieve. It's very easy to split a sieve between the two though. I even released one full sieve into my pond where I currently have two small goldfish and some rosey cheek minnows just because there are so many shrimp. I had only planned on doing one feeding a week but this first batch from just one scoop of eggs has produced so much! I've been very impressed by this hatchery. I bought a desk lamp for a heat source but have not had to use it. I sat the hatchery on the window sill in my kitchen and the sunlight has been enough light to draw them in. Great product overall! Great buy that I'm glad I invested in. I highly recommend it and I hope to have some baby minnows soon because of it.

I’ve never tried to hatch brine shrimp before, but now that I have a saltwater tank I wanted to try my hand at it. After doing some internet searching, it seemed a bit more involved than I would like - separating shells, using air stones and fine mesh nets, etc. Then I stumbled across this product, which seemed to be an all in one solution. I was a bit skeptical, but the reviews were good so I went ahead and bought it. It was very simple to set up, especially considering I already have all I need for saltwater. Last night I set it up exactly according to directions, put the container under an under cabinet light, and woke up today to little live critters! My fish absolutely loved them. They are continuing to hatch, as I continue to harvest and store them for a couple days. The setup is small and simple. I did not need anything outside of what was included in the kit. Harvesting was easy. They are hatching great. I am very satisfied!

I use 1 tablespoon table salt to 4 cups of tap water and always get great results. I start seeing nauplii around 18 hours under light and in abundance around 24 hours. I usually get 2 or 3 good feedings from a batch ending around 30 hours in. I wash it out with hot water and repeat the process.

I have had this hatchery less than a week and i love it. Basically, i had tried all the others and the problem is, egg shells ended up with the newly hatched shrimps. Not this one... I decided to try this and i will say, in under 24 hours, i had thousands of shrimps in the little cup from 1 tsp of eggs. What i did was premixed some dechlorinated water, baking soda and aquarium salt and poured it in. I put it under a light without the lid on. The lid, in my opinion, is only needed when they are hatched to attract them to the center cup. I should have bought this a long time ago. It's so simple... Mine came with eggs and since i got so many baby shrimp now, i just set up a tank for growing them out for my bigger fish. The eggs it come with should last you a long time. Oh yea, about aeration... Well, i din't use any aeration and i still got a good hatch rate. I just kept the water about 80-82 using only a CFL bulb closely over it until the majority of the eggs hatched, then i put the lid on and used a small flashlight sitting over the hole with a clear coaster (Cork pad removed) to attract them to the center. I harvested just shrimps, no egg shells... Perfect...

I have been using this quite regularly (about once or twice a week) for over a year now. I set it up on a counter where I have a small lamp I leave on all the time and aimed at the opening in the middle. I used to mix 25 grams of regular table salt (not coarse since that takes much longer to dissolve) with 1 liter of tap water for each set up but now I make a big batch of salt water in a jug with 100 grams of salt in 4 liters of water and store at room temp to use when refilling. No need to dechlorinate the water, no need to use baking soda, I use iodized or non-iodized salt, it doesn't seem to matter and no need to aerate the water. When it has dissolved and is at room temp, add to the container to the lower line, add a scoop of the shrimp eggs it came with (lasted a whole year but yield decreased over time so I added more eggs each time) along the outer ring, close it up and within a day I have lots of critters to feed my fish. The hatched eggs stay in the outer rings and the brine shrimp hatch and swim toward the light at the center to be scooped up. Lasts for about 3 days each time I use it. After that, I find there are fewer live brine shrimp and it starts to stink. I dump it out, clean it well with only hot water and paper towels and can start over. It is really easy to set up each time, my fish go crazy for the brine shrimp and is a great addition to a varied diet. It works out to be much cheaper than buying frozen brine shrimp. I initially hesitated because of the cost (beware they charge shipping too) but it turned out to be a great purchase and much easier than messing with the DIY or other aerated systems that take up so much more space. This is a very compact way of providing fresh brine shrimp for your fish in small quantities. My only complaint would be that the strainer in the middle that collects the shrimp gets clogged over time and becomes increasingly hard to clean. Would love if they provided 2 with the kit and offered the ability to buy them separately too.

Always found brine shrimp hatching to be a complete pain so I never did it. Find a place to hang it near my air pumps, make sure nothing leaks, divert an air pump etc etc. This made things so much easier since I can just set it on any surface without bothering with air pumps or hanging and it'll be fine. Wish I found this earlier.

Rojo is my beautiful red betta who has flecks of blue in his tail. I placed the Hatchery Dish in front of a NW-facing window on a seed-starting warming mat, in a round, enamel camping plate to protect against spills of salt water. I began harvesting the baby shrimp after 16 hours. I rinsed them in the little screened cup with drops of tap water until they settled into one side of the cup. I immersed the cup into a small container of betta-treated water, which I then poured into Rojo's tank. For the first feeding, I did not wait to see if Rojo understood there was something new in the tank. He seemed to be pretty focused on looking for betta pellets, which he had already gobbled up. Right before I sat down for my own dinner, about eight hours later, I added a second helping of rinsed baby brine shrimp to his tank and then had the pleasure of watching him hunt and eat the shrimp until I could not see any more of them, probably 10 to 15 minutes later. I swam in the Great Salt Lake as a child and was horrified when my dad pointed out the brine shrimp swimming all around us. It took away the fun of the increased buoyancy. Several years later, I won first prize for my 8th grade Science Fair project by growing "Sea Monkeys" and watching them NOT develop into little swimming people-like creatures. Before making this purchase, I watched several videos about how to make your own brine shrimp hatching system. I decided I wanted a system that would fit into a small space and not require additional nets, hoses, etc. This product is not inexpensive, however, I am impressed that it effectively works as described and is not unattractive or messy. Mine came with a jar of brine shrimp eggs, so that increased the value of the purchase. I anticipate I can change out the seed-starting mat for a light bulb under the table, because salt water can be very corrosive. Best of all, and this was my original goal, this hatching system has provided Rojo with the pleasures of the hunt!

In the past I've used the bottle method with an air bubbler, drainage lines, strainer for filtering out shrimp from eggs, etc. This hatchery is fill-and-forget. The design keeps the eggs out of the harvest area and you can just periodically lift out the filter cup to catch your live brine shrimp. I'll use a light to draw them to the center for even more shrimp per harvest. If you want you can gut-load them with a little phytoplankton in the water before harvesting. Just a couple of drops. Worth every penny if you're feeding small fish. Might even keep a small jar of brine shrimp to grow out.

This is a great item if you have aquariums and fish that like baby brine shrimp or you're raising baby fish. I use one scoop and after a day I have enough healthy snacks for 2 twenty gallon aquariums (I give them a small amount of food as well). We have bettas, dwarf gourami, guppies, mollies, danios, and harlequin rasboras and they all go bananas when we feed them. I feed one tank in the morning and the other at night. I really like that the baby brine shrimp move in the water so the fish can use their natural hunting instincts. It's a fantastic little set up and so much easier than the complicated contraptions I see online. Highly recommended.

Great brine shrimp hatchery that requires almost no effort to use. If you are breeding fish and have lots of fry, it might be better to have two of these as one might not produce enough brine shrimp in time for the next day’s feedings.
