Do you just put some of this in a salt shaker to use?

NO !!!!! I bought a shaker to use with it and quickly realized it is NOT that kind of salt, lol. It is a buttery-flavored STRONG salt. You put 1/2 TEAspoon of Flavacol in with 1tablespoon coconut oil (NO MORE than 3/4 TEAspoon of Flavacol & only that much if you like an EXTREME FREAKISH amount of salt), Melt for a few seconds then add 1/3 to 1/2 cup popcorn (if microwave popper hit "popcorn setting" in the microwave & "add 30 seconds"). The chances of a normal person or couple using the whole carton in a lifetime is doubtful to me, lol.

What is the "artificial flavor" that is listed in the ingredients? Having a generic label like that makes me nervous about what I am ingesting...

I was looking at this, but haven't purchased. I too was curious about the secret "ingredient(s)," so I found this on livestrong.com, http://www.livestrong.com/article/361445-nutrition-information-on-flavacol-butter-flavored-seasoned-salt/: "Original Flavacol contains only four ingredients: salt, artificial flavor, and FD&C yellows #5 and #6 to provide popcorn with a buttery yellow color."

Do you put this in with the popcorn while you are popping it or sprinkle it after it's popped? I have a 6 qt. popper, how much do you use?

Yes, you mix it in with the oil and popcorn while its heating up. As far as quantity, a little bit goes a long way. You use a teaspoon for every 6-8 oz of kernels.

can this be used on hot air popcorn or microwaved (no oil) popcorn?

I sprinkle it on microwave pop corn so i don't see why you couldn't put it on hot air popcorn. But if you spray your popcorn with a little oil after popping, the flavacol will stick to the popcorn.

Very happy with this product.

Makes the popcorn taste salty and slightly buttery. Happy with this product. It will last a very long time given how potent it is. For "cinema" grade popcorn, it sort of lacks that evenly distributed yellow color, and trying to put more seasoning makes it unbearably salty. You definitely need to pair it up with a butter flavored popping oil, but it's pretty good on its own with just a little coconut/cooking oil.
