I gave this as a gift to all the members of my extended family whose birthdays are in the same month as mine. (This is how I get around the problem of buying dozens of gifts.) They all enjoyed the book over and over. It takes a couple repeat readings to really digest it. The story and the feelings are so well illustrated and the taunts, the shame, the naive remarks that hurt, it's all there. It's very powerful and it all comes out in the end. The main character learns how to stand up for herself. It's a triumph!
