Keeps the honest people out!
Someone decided they needed to be on my property despite the gate, fence, barbed wire, and two retarded dogs. After I came home and saw my gate bent open I decided this was no longer too expensive to get. This has two wires that you have to figure out how to get to the black box. Once you open up the black box you can stab around pretty blindly and still hook this up pretty easily. I am a complete goober and managed to make it work! Believe it or not, it makes a notable difference in the (false) sense of security you have with a gate. It makes a person have to WANT to come on to your property instead of just pushing the gate until it yields. It will NOT yield with this in place. Your gate will physically break before this gives out. It is very solid BUT dependent greatly on your method of connecting it to your gate. I did not use their hardware. Instead, I used two "U" bolts that lined up perfectly with the holes and then "fixed" the nuts so they would not easily come off. All in all, I am very happy with this lock. It works great.

Very satisfied
I read all the bad reviews for customer service on this company, but their product is very much more affordable than all the rest, so I took a chance. I, too, had to read the instructions carefully, because my MM 600 is not listed in the lock's compatible openers. But I saw that the diagrams showed photos very similar to my control board, and took a shot. Everything fell into place, and the lock works great. One caveat: the receiver pin that the lock grabs on the post, did not fit between my gate and post. I don't like that big of a gap anyway. I used a 4" wide square Ubolt as the receiver pin, by drilling holes in the post, and setting it into the post at the right angle to be grabbed by the lock. It works fine as long as you carefully line them up before welding the ubolt in place (yes I have a pipe post, but you could do the same with wood posts by drilling tight holes, and wedging the ubolt in place. Use a hammer to drive the bolt into place with smaller diameter holes. You can still adjust it by pulling it out and in of the post.) I had a four inch wide by five inch length SQUARE ubolt. These are hard to come by in my area, and I ordered it off the net. (AMAZON, OF COURSE). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQM05Q/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1 So I managed to bypass customer service at MM for now. I'm a very limited handyman and even I did this, so you can too.

Replacement lock
A direct lightning strike took out our original 6 year old gate lock. It worked flawlessly, so we purchased another one. So far, so good. Easy installation, I think a little pricey, but when you consider my family’s safety and the security of our farm’s entrance, I guess it is worth it. If you have a Mighty Mule automatic gate opener, you need an automatic gate lock.

Keeps gate latched shut but not meant for security
Overall the gate lock works well. It seems though that it has made my controllers connectivity a lot shorter; I used to be able to stand at my door (about 75 feet) and open my gate but now I have to be within probably 20 feet from the control box for it to activate. I had to custom make a plate/instation bracket for the auto lock assembly but I have a small 110v mig welder so that wasn’t really an issue - just had to buy a length of flat 2” steel, cut it about 5.5” and spot welded it together. After that I fully welded the plate in place and painted it. I just drilled holes and bolted it on as I didn’t want anything too permanent incase it failed to operate and I need to remove it easier. After mounting it the wiring was easy just two wires into the control board black and red. It unlocks a split second before the gate activates - very smart programming there! Works great! Now the bad and why it only gets 4 stars... I can pick this lock in about 10 seconds!!! The latch mechanism inside the can be pushed in to unlatch the catch! All you need is a thin flathead screwdriver and voila! Your gate is unlocked-open! Not real happy about that for over $100! So it’s not a real “security” lock. It’s more to keep the gate from blowing open when there’s a little “slack” between the closed position of the motor. It is a good trapasser deterant though. Besides - if a thief or trespasser really wants on your property they’re going to get in one way or another. Thanks for reading.

Works Perfectly!
This gate lock turned out to be an awesome buy and works as intended! Where I work, we had to install a hydraulic arm with remote control to open/close the pool gate for someone in a wheelchair. Even with the gate closed, you could still push the gate open about 2-3 inches. We were concerned that someone could shoulder the gate open and break the hydraulic arm. I ordered this automatic gate lock and had it hooked up to the hydraulic arm for added security/safety. It works perfectly!! When the remote is pressed to open the gate, the lock disengages and the gate opens. When the remote is pressed again, the gate closes and the lock engages. The gate is now very secure and we do not have to worry about someone breaking the hydraulic arm. To me, the item is listed at a fair price. I would have paid more for this automatic gate lock.

My FM143 works like a charm
I purchased the FM143 for the same reason that many of the other purchasers did. That is to keep livestock from pushing through between the gate and the "latch post". I have it working with the FM600 GATE opener. An auxiliary circuit board came with my FM143 that the insert says "is to make the fm200 operate the lock. My FM600 heavy duty opener has two terminals marked "gate lock" thus I had no reason to try to use the auxiliary circuit board. I purchased the FM143 from Amazon.com and the FM600 from Tractor Supply. This setup is installed on the front yard gate at our ranch in the Texas Hill Country. There were a few places in the instructions where the wording, at first, didn't make complete sense; but, after re-reading them while looking at the part discussed, I could make the meaning stand out. I have another FM600 that I plan to install out at the highway as I get the time. I will install an FM143 on that gate as well. I plan for that gate to be a heavier "pipe gate". The livestock issue, and the "slouchiness" of many people in operating a gate, are only two of the reasons I went "Heavy duty". I would recommend this lock to anyone; and yes, an adeptness with machinery, hardware, and mechanics, goes a long way.

Perfect solution for our needs
I purchased the gate opener for our 16’ aluminum gate but then I read some of the reviews for the opener that said your gate could still be pushed open with a strong gust of wind so I got this. When I purchased I thought the key only locked the gate if you got out of your car and manually locked it. Good surprise it locks automatically and the key is only for emergencies if your gate won’t open electronically. Since my primary purpose for purchasing this was for ensuring the gate latched and couldn’t be pushed or blown open I am VERY happy with it. I didn’t get it for security because looking at it you can tell it isn’t a great lock but I don’t expect to get broken into either. We prefer to close the gate when we are out but I don’t like spending all the time getting ready in the morning only to have get out on a rainy day and manually shut and lock the gate when i go to work or come home.

I wish they had them 8yrs ago.
It works great. I had a Mighty Mule opener already. We had a storm with 40MPH gusty winds. My 14' wide, 6' tall gate started to be pushed open. It was set up tight but the wind was making it move, then it bent the ram shaft, 90 degrees. I had to get a new ram, and of course it would not work with the old control box (Booo). But once you have bought all of the newer stuff, you can put THIS lock on it. Another storm goes by, with big winds and the lock holds great. No rocking at all, no pressure on the ram. Unlocks with your remote before the gate moves, and locks automatically when closing. You just have to pay attention to how your gate closes at the wall or fence post. You want it on the inside and that is where it must be level going across or you will have to build a shim or cut a hole in the receiver post.
