Very well designed!
I haven't had a chance to use it much yet, so this review may change, but so far I think this is an excellent tea kettle, especially for the price. We used to have the Cuisinart tea kettle that costs over $100, and so far I have noticed several things about the way this kettle is designed that seem far superior to its much more expensive competitor... 1) the tea steeper (the part that holds the loose tea) has a detachable lid which makes it FAR easier to clean it out compared to the Cuisinart tea steeper which had a metal bar down its center. I always found it very difficult to clean. This is not an issue here. One downside is that it does appear to be smaller, so you might not be able to make as much tea. But we never made much at once anyway so that isn't a big deal for us. 2) The lid just slides into place and you raise/lower the steeper by pulling up and down on the handle. The Cuisinart had a complicated twist/lock system which I always found difficult to line up just right. 3) More temperature options! Ways the Cuisinart seemed better: It was quieter while it brewed, and it also seemed to reach temperature a bit quicker. Overall, for half the price of one of the leading competitors of electric tea kettles, I would say this tea kettle is very well designed. I hope it holds up well and makes us some good tea!

Absolutely great purchase, would buy again in a heartbeat!
I’ve has this pot about two months, and have used it fairly frequently (although less frequently as it’s been summer, but I imagine it will be daily in autumn and winter) this little pot is just amazing. Heats water very quickly, and is easy to program for a specific temperature. I’ve used it to heat up water for hot cocoa, but usually use it to make tea. I’ve made herbal, black, green, and white teas and they have all come out lovely. SOOOO much easier than when I was trying to stick a thermometer in my kettle to get the correct temperature, especially for the more fragile green and white teas. It gives a pleasant soft beep when it reaches temperatures, and when it turns off (it will keep the water warm for an hour, great for a slow supper like myself) The *ONLY* improvement I could see is if the tea compartment was bigger. When I make a full pot, that is roughly 7 cup a of water. Most tea calls for three grams of leaf per cup of water, and for some of varieties I use I have filled the compartment completely to have the proper “leaf to water ratio” - without allowing room for expansion once it is in the water. So, I generally don’t make a pot above the 1.3L mark to make sure there is ample room for the leaves to float in the water. At the end of the day this is a great electric kettle, and does everything I could hope for in this price range. The only thing better would be is if I could program it to put the tea in and lift it out again, but the only product hat does that is over $200!!! Nope, I don’t have that kind of money,, this Gourmia is all I need :)

Inferior quality "Made in China" product
I read through all the reviews and was very hesitant to purchase this tea maker due to the many complaints about rust forming on the metal bottom of the kettle. I ordered it anyway just to see if that was truly what is happening.I did not even get this far. According to the instructions you are suppose to boil water in the kettle and pour it out. Doing it twice to make sure any remaining chemicals from the production are washed out before beginning to brew tea with it. I did exactly that and notice a water puddle forming between the kettle and the heating base. I picked up the kettle and sure enough, water was literally running, not dripping out at the bottom of the kettle. I cleaned it, repeated the process and this time the water leak was even larger. Will be returning the product. The reviews are accurate and this product is of inferior quality. Lots of things are made in China, but honestly, top to this day I never had a product shipped to me that was broken right away. I do not believe that the water leak is a result of shipping damage but a lack of product quality. Maybe Gourmia just doesn't have the resources to have good a quality assurance process in place in China to make sure the product is manufactured to high quality standards. Disappointing. I am not going for a replacement either. Opening the tea mesh basket and also looking and feeling the metal for the kettle base, I can tell that the metals are of inferior quality. I have worked as a sheetmetal mechanic on airplanes for many years, so I have some expertise when it comes to that. The metals used in the manufacturing of this kettle are not a good metal alloy at all. Therefore, it is very plausible that rust would have formed quickly if I had gotten as far as actually using it for a few weeks. Very disappointing. I would have paid over $100 for a good quality tea maker, but unfortunately, many companies focus on cheap China production and profit maximization. That's the world we live in now.

Convenient and sleek, but beeps randomly when off
Worked great and has been staying pretty clean when boiling water. Makes great tasting tea when I boil water to make tea in my mug, but when I make tea using the built in infuser it tastes off. Maybe a burnt taste? I even tried turning down the keep warm temp and still weird taste. So we just don't use the tea infuser anymore. I love the keep warm feature. When one person gets up in the morning and starts the kettle it will stay warm for the next person to make their morning cup of tea, too. And, as long as it stays plugged in, it remembers the last temp at which you boiled. Makes for quicker mornings! And it beeps when it comes to temp, which is helpful as I'll often forget and/or loose track of time. My main annoyance is that it will randomly beep when it is off. Even when we haven't made tea at all that day and it is empty, it will randomly go "beep, beep, beep, beep, beep." It even goes off in the middle of the night. I haven't solved this mystery yet.

Loved it for 17 months....but...
EDITED: update 18 months after purchase, the inside bottom is starting to rust. I use it every day at least once, so it has had lots of use. I still, really like, it but I will have to replace the kettle soon, and I bet it won’t be inexpensive. This is a fabulous kettle. It has excellent capacity, it heats up really fast. The tea compartment is easy to open and close and clean. I use this to make my special signature blend of iced tea, which is half loose hibiscus tea and half black tea with peach/ginger/mango. The kettle makes the perfect quantity for me to steep strong and concentrated, and put into a glass container in the refrigerator. Previously this was kind of a chore and now it is a breeze. The kettle heats water faster than my induction burner does. It also shuts itself off after a time, which is a nice safety feature. Highly recommended, great quality and easy to use.

Decent kettle...for one year
Overall, this is a decent kettle. It's simple to use, heats quickly, and pre-programmed temp is a must-have feature. However, after moderate use over 13 months, it no longer heats water and is effectively dead. I contacted Gourmia about this, and was told that since it is over a year old, it's out of warranty and cannot be replaced. After speaking to a supervisor, I was told I could ship it back and they would see about repairing or potentially replacing it. Given that it would cost almost as much to box, insure and ship this as a new unit costs, I'll be looking elsewhere for a new kettle. Something as straightforward as an electric kettle should last more than a year.

Excellent Product!
This is an excellent unit. I received one for Christmas (OK, I ordered it for myself), and have used it daily since then. The water boils, then stays at a desired temperature (you control the temperature) until you don't need it any more. I don't even use the tea ball, since I have a brewing teapot that I really like. The light works to indicate that the pot is still on. It's pretty simple, really. So far, it's been a wonderful product with all the features needed to brew perfect tea, or to heat water for soup or other cooking projects. Auto shutoff is wonderful. I'm going to take very good care of this Tea Kettle. My wife and I love it and use it constantly. We did a lot of shopping on line as well as in stores when the previous unit, a different brand, started to decline. This one as well-rated by the users, and I can add my rating with enthusiasm. I noticed that it is out of stock at Amazon. I hope it doesn't stay out opf stock. It's the best electric tea kettle I've ever used, and the price was not prohibitive.

I have a Breville Electric Kettle that I dearly love but it only has a twenty minute stay warm ...
I have a Breville Electric Kettle that I dearly love but it only has a twenty minute stay warm function and I find I usually want that second cup around the thirty minute mark. I didn't want to spend a ton of money so I opted for this one after doing a lot of researching. My checklist of features included--longer stay warm, wide enough for my hand to wash inside, tea basket for loose tea, temperature select, stainless steel in contact with water. Here are the pros for this tea kettle. Pros: *Glass so you can see the water boiling. *Temperature gauge shows you the temperature as it goes up. *Keeps water warm for an hour. *Flexible to set at whatever temperature you wish. *Tea basket for loose tea attached to center of lid. Cons: *Horrible customer service. I emailed three times with questions since receiving the kettle and before posting this review, starting September 20th after I opened the item. The form response back, all three times, was they are closed for religious holidays and will respond when they return. This may be how they secure they won't have to accept returns as the window for returns expires before they respond. *Lots of plastic parts. The outside parts of the lid, the handle, and the base are hard plastic. *Wobbly when set on the base. My Breville sits snugly once you place it on the base, but this one isn't a secure fit. I have mine in a secluded place, but I would fear for a tip-over if it was on the edge of a cart or table. *Heavy and a little awkward. It's quite heavy when filled with the maximum amount of water and the added weight of the tea basket and the thick plastic handle makes it a little cumbersome when pouring. *Buttons aren't seated perfectly in base. Take a close look at the first picture and you can see the button is slightly caught under the edge of the metal to the right. Every time I push the on button it sticks for a minute and I have to repress it. It's like the opening for it wasn't quite large enough. So far it hasn't stuck down completely, but I am a little worried that might happen. *Oxidation. I checked the inside of my Breville and despite me always leaving water in it, and forgetting to empty it, there's no oxidation on the inside bottom. I don't think I've even washed it more than a couple of times. The Goumia always has spots on the inside and I wash it out every other day, reaching my hand into the bottom and scrubbing to get the spots off. If it wasn't glass, no one would see the spots, but it makes me wonder what type of stainless steel it is to be having those spot issues. If the Breville also had the spots, I would say it was my water causing it, but it doesn't. So, hmmmm. *Tea basket is not removable. I mistakenly thought I could detach the tea basket and use it only when I wanted to brew loose tea. It's attached to the lid. The directions say to keep the basket pulled up while boiling the water, which makes the height of this kettle almost 15 inches. You can take the little strainer part off, but you still have to have the strainer basket lid and the rod attached to the lid. *Tea basket doesn't lock onto the basket lid. It pushes onto the lid, but it's not a really tight fit. The first time I tried it, I filled it with tea and lowered the tea basket into the boiling water the basket came away from the lid and all the tea floated out. I've tried it again, but didn't put so much tea into the basket. In Summary: If I had received a response from the company with the answer to my concerns I might have been able to rate this three stars. If I had to do it again, I would spend the extra money and purchase the more expensive options on the market. I would be sure to opt for a model that has a removable tea basket.
