I've used French cleats for years to hang heavy objects on walls, and these do it well. I had a pair of stereo speakers I wanted to hang on my garage walls, as what good is a garage to work in if you don't have tunes? I didn't want to have to put a bunch of drywall anchors in or build shelves to hold them, so French cleats seemed like the perfect way to hang them with minimal effort and almost no additional projection away from the wall. It was a simple matter to center and screw one of the cleats to the top edge of each speaker, and then do the same on the wall where I wanted each to hang. Using a level to make sure they were, well, level, I screwed the other half of the cleats to the walls and then hoisted the 50 pound speakers up and onto the cleat. It's a simple design/concept, and it holds a lot of weight without adding a great deal to the depth of the object being hung. That's what I like about French cleats, and these are certainly the real deal!

This hanger is absolutely the best way to install a heavy mirror or wall picture. It was super easy to use and came with great instructions. It comes in many sizes too. I am suprised with how sturdy is is as well. Shipping was fast and the price could not be beat. I would definitely buy this again and highly recommend this hanger to everyone.

So far these seem to be holding up to the monstrous mirror frame that I needed to hang.

I live in earthquake country, and I love hanging photos and art on my walls. These French cleats are easy to install (the instructions are clear and straightforward), and I never have to worry that my pictures will fall off the wall and hurt someone if, heaven forbid! a temblor should roll through - the wall will fall down before the picture does! It's an added benefit that you have the ability to shift the picture a tad left or right to make sure it's perfectly centered. I use traditional hooks for small pictures, but French cleats are my "go-to" for everything else!
