I was replacing my alternator outdoors when the neighbor distracted me right as I was about to pull the wiring. Forgot to pull the negative battery cable off the battery, then when I pulled the positive cable off the alternator, it touched the housing and arced with a loud pop of the inline 140 Alt fuse bursting. I got this fuse put into there, and thank the sky that nothing else was damaged and the blown fuse did the job it was supposed to do. As a side not. If you do what I did, but way out in the boonies and need to rig it up for an emergency use to get out of the woods, you can pop the plastic lid off the fuse and push down on the two copper plates so they are touching, then ball up a small bit of paper and jam it down into the fuse cavity to hold the two copper plates together. As long as the alternator popped the fuse due to user error of not pulling the negative cable before working on the alternator, and there is no other reason the fuse is being overloaded, it should get you a ways without ruining your electrical system. JUST MAKE ABSOLUTE CERTAIN THAT THE TWO COPPER PLATES ARE TOUCHING AND WON'T WIGGLE LOOSE WHILE DRIVING. IF THEY WIGGLE LOOSE YOU WILL LOSE ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE!!!!! I found that a wad of paper jammed into the fuse as hard as possible, along with maybe some tape holding ti down for extra care is enough to get everything running, assuming nothing else was fried.

I was a fool and didn't disconnect my battery while installing a new alternator, blew the main 140A fuse in my 2004 Lexus RX330. This did the trick, just remember that this fuse is often screwed in underneath, so you might have to do a lot more work and disassembly than you would on a regular fuse.

original part for year of vehicle, the newer version is not the same for installation, it was difficult to install ,causing a strip screw when installing. The newer version does not have the drop in version for installing, you need to remove the screws to install the non cut version and require patiences installing the screws in a tight box with little room to maneuver.

It’s a hard to find this fuse these days. Looks almost identical to the original. Seems to be good quality. Works in my vehicle.
