This shirt from the WarbirdShirts collection features the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King. Developed by Sikorsky Aircraft in the late 1950s to counter the Soviet submarine threat, the SH-3 was also the world's first amphibious helicopter. Sea Kings began service in the US Navy in 1961 and performed numerous search and rescue operations during the Vietnam War; they also retrieved spacecraft from the ocean during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. Although now retired from the Navy, a Marine Corps Sea King remains the US presidential transport helicopter to this day, with the call sign “Marine One” when the President is aboard.
