BEST WOOD SEAL I HAVE EVERY USED
Had a new cedar fence put around my pool equipment etc. and wanted it to stay natural and not gray and this stuff is the best.

Solution plugged the sprayer and left a sticky surface on our deck.
I purchased this product for the second year for our cedar deck. We were very pleased with the first year application and results. This year's product had some small clots in the solution that constantly stopped up the sprayer. After application the deck has a sticky surface to it several weeks after application and drying. I have written the manufacturer twice and not received any response. I will not use or recommend this product.

Easy to apply. Absorbs quickly.
I used two gallons of Tough Timber on my 710 square foot pressure-treated deck. I diluted it at a ratio of 2.5:1 and applied it with a garden pump sprayer. It went on quickly and dried within 4 hours at an air temperature of 93 deg F to a clear finish with a very slight satin sheen and no color change. I first prepped the deck by pressure washing it (allowing 4 days to dry thoroughly) and then lightly sanding it with 80 grit sandpaper. I am pleased with the result and look forward to several years of protection from the elements!

Easy to apply, but very poor preformance
I had about 500 sq. ft. of decking to seal and in the past I've always used oil based sealers like Thompsons. Those sealers darkened the deck (which wasn't a problem since it faded back to original look before long), so you could see a big change right away.. Those sealers would show strong beading with the initial rains, but before too long it seemed the protection faded away. I never kept accurate data, so I can't say it was gone in six months, a year, or perhaps even longer, but for the expense it didn't seem nearly long enough for my satisfaction. I thought I would try this product in hopes of saving some money. I bought one gallon and diluted it to its weakest level (4 gallons water/ 1 gallon sealer). Supposedly at that concentration you should get 1000 sq.ft. of coverage. I figured I would apply two coats. I applied it with a pump up backpack sprayer and it went on very easily. However, I didn't have enough of the product to cover even 400 sq. ft. of decking! I wet the deck thoroughly, but not to the point of leaving any puddles. My deck is old and the wood grain is well worn from several pressure washings, which is likely the cause of such poor coverage. If you are sealing a freshly installed deck and have a way to apply the sealer with less intensity than a pump up spray applier you might get the type of coverage the manufacturer is advertising. My biggest disappointment was with the products beading action. After getting less than half the coverage I figured I had applied it so heavily that I would get good beading when it rained. Unfortunately, we got a good rain several days after I had applied it and compared to the sections of deck where I had run out of the sealer I couldn't any difference! When the rain stopped, both sections of decking looked identical, just soaked wood, no beading. On another morning when we had a light sprinkle I could see some beading on the sealed boards, but once it rained in earnest I couldn't see any beading. I don't plan to even bother buying another gallon to finish sealing the remainder of the deck.

Tough Timber
Not sure it is as effective a water repellent as described based upon performance .

Fast delivery
I used a sprayer to apply the sealer. The deck is about 990sf but about 450sf is covered so the the exposed area is about 540sf. The sealer was applied in two coats about three days apart. Did it work, does it meet expectations? I don't know. A year from now I can give a better assessment. A rather expensive solution to take a flyer on. We will see.
